Science Education

Science Education(Junior High School)

Using school-based curriculum combined with scientific inquiry and practical courses, students will cultivate various abilities, stimulate their interest in learning, and assist teachers in developing new teaching methods through the hands-on experience and environmental connection process.

Goals:

  • Create science activity programs which encompass scientific experiments to assist in better understanding science and develop a variety of abilities.
  • Effective promotion of science education.
  • Introduce core classes for STEM ( Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics ) education.

Strategies:

  • Develop teaching materials and methods suitable for science education in disadvantaged areas.
  • Through the implementation and effective promotion of science education, we hope to inspire and assist local teachers to improve their teaching skills and methods.

Progress:

  • 1H2022:Chang Hua County Huatan junior high school was invited to participate in the cooperation program benefiting a total of 25 students.
  • 2H2022-1H2023:The Department of Physics of National Chung Hsing University and Nantou County Mingjian Junior High School were invited to join the project, and a total of 60 students benefited.

Looking Forward:

After a successful rollout of the program, the Chang Hua County Huatan junior high school will become the benchmark school for the program. We plan to offer the program to other schools in additional counties with a goal to further expose more children to science education.

 

KFF HomeRun National Science Competition (Junior and Senior High School)

We plan to hold the Competitions for junior high school and senior high school students. We hope to promote the learning model with STEM education and to encourage students to design thinking about project implementation. We use practical designing with Arduino、ESP、Microbit to stimulate students’ creativity. By integrating knowledge of different disciplines, Students can solve natural science problems.

Goals:

  • Implement the learning process of natural science exploration and implementation, combine electronic technology and engineering structures, and use procedural computing thinking to effectively solve life and learning problems.
  • Carry out scientific creation through teamwork, properly use scientific and technological tools, materials and resources, train students to practice, and design scientific and creative works based on the scientific knowledge they have learned.

Strategies:

  • Through the process of connecting hands-on experience with the environment, meaningful learning goals are achieved.
  • Through this project, science education and practical learning processes can be implemented and effectively promoted.

Looking Forward:

Improve students’ integration ability and inquiry spirit in using technological tools, materials and resources, cultivate their scientific knowledge, hands-on practice and knowledge-seeking habits, and integrate academic knowledge into daily life.

 

STEM Seed Teacher Cultivation Program (Elementary and Junior High School)

Nurturing teachers with professional competence in STEM teaching. Through the design of STEM curriculum modules, teachers’ science literacy development ability can be enhanced. Teachers are encouraged to promote courses in related fields of science in schools through research and development, exchange and sharing.

Goals:

  • Strengthen teachers to develop STEM education curriculum modules to provide students with more scientific learning opportunities and resources.
  • Assist counties and cities to cultivate seed teachers who promote STEM education.

Strategies:

  • Based on the indicators established by the advisory committee of the STEM teaching profession, the evaluation is carried out on the produced teaching and education resource module.
  • Use student feedback sheets to understand students’ learning effectiveness and further improve teaching quality.

Progress:

In the first year, we will start from Nantou County and invite 9 junior high schools and elementary schools in the county to carry out trial operations

Looking Forward:

  • Through the design of STEM curriculum modules, teachers’ science literacy development ability can be enhanced.
  • The seminar is suitable for STEM education-related teaching materials for schools with limited resources.
  • Teachers are encouraged to promote courses in related fields of science in schools through research and development, exchange and sharing.

Fun Science On Saturday(Elementary and Junior High School)

 

Promoting science education through science activities on Saturday, enhancing students’ interest in science by engaging them in hands-on activities, is also currently one of the missions of universities.

Goals:

  • Cultivate students’ basic literacy, and cultivate students’ basic abilities and professional knowledge.
  • Build a cross-disciplinary learning environment to enhance hands-on and problem-solving skills.
  • Finally, I hope that students can have the ability to innovate

Strategies:

  • The abstract scientific knowledge is conveyed to students through easy-to-understand science teaching aids and educational modes, so as to reduce students’ fear of science and enhance students’ learning.
  • Through in-depth science activities, students’ enthusiasm for learning is unleashed and the seeds of science can be nurtured for the future.

Progress:

January 2024 to December 2024:In the last week of each month, it will be handled at National Chung Hsing University(Academy of Circular Economy), and will be freely registered by students from grade 5 to grade 9.

Looking Forward:

Through simple science experiments designed by professors in various fields, children are introduced to understand abstract scientific knowledge, hoping that science will take root and cultivate students’ scientific knowledge.

 

STEM Education Winter Camp

Collaborate with universities to provide STEM courses and teachers in related fields for interested students to learn and nurture their potential. The camp activities focus on strengthening the balance of learning opportunities for disadvantaged students in rural areas, and integrating science, engineering, technology and mathematics with STEM education courses, so that participating primary school students can think independently and develop their creativity.

Goals:

Through the Future STEM education winter camp activities, we encourage to join the science industry and let science take root in the hearts of elementary school student early, so that learning science can gradually become a national sport and reach the consensus that science is gender neutral.

Strategies:

Meaningful learning is achieved through a combination of scientific concepts and hands-on experience. It helps students to gain a deeper understanding of scientific concepts and principles. To promote science education through camp activities, so as to benefit more students, further cultivate their scientific interests and abilities, and stimulate their creativity and spirit of exploration.

Progress:

During the activity, participants guided them to explore and discover problems, and encouraged themselves to think about how to use technology to solve problems around them.
